Old Business

The prior meeting’s minutes were reviewed and approved by the board

Meet with member

Jeff contacted the member and he will be conditionally reinstated for the basketball season predicated on the items in his letter. (closed)

Video Equipment

Jack Brown has all of equipment and will have it engraved with a WCOA logo and maintain they equipment with a sign out sheet. (closed)

2007-08 meeting schedule

The dates have been finalized as 8/29, 9/12, 10/10, 10/24, 11/7, 11/19, 12/19, 1/7, and 2/6, with the location as Armwood High School (closed)

Committees

The committees are finalized with the necessity for Jack Brown to replace Alan Weatherspoon on the Evaluations committee. Chris Callaway was replaced as chairman by Bobby Payton and Eric Hunter will be the new member on this committee.

The Evaluations committee will meet and have an evaluations sheet to present to the board for approval, which will focus on the 1 and 2 level officials, and their promotions to the next level. This information will be presented to the membership at the 9/12 meeting.

A different group of senior officials will be selected to evaluate the 3, 4 and 5 rated officials, utilizing a different set of criteria, possibly using a modified form of the FHSAA evaluation form.

Leo will convene his retention and recruitment committee to finalize the items presented by chairman Quasar Givens at the last meeting.

It is a requirement of the FHSAA for each association to provide them with the names of crews, so the recommendations committee will meet to begin addressing this requirement. They will submit a spreadsheet with all regional and state tournament dates after the district contests to the membership to verify availability of qualified members to participate on those dates.

Booking commissioner

The board selected Chris Callaway as the new booking commissioner and will meet with him and the top candidates for assistant booking commissioner to make a final determination, which will be announced to the membership at that time. The board discussed a fee for both commissioners based on previously established salary guidelines and will present these to the commissioners after finalization by the board prior to the next scheduled membership meeting

Middle School Basketball

The cluster definitions as well as the sign up sheet is available on the middle school section of the web site and these forms will be presented to the membership at the 8/29 meeting. The new members will be assigned games with a more senior official after their qualifications have been met(fingerprinting and background check; register with the FHSAA and WCOA) All members will be requested to update their availability in Arbiter at the 8/29 meeting.  Jeff Albers will finalize the fee with Hillsborough County prior to the next meeting. The first game will start at 06:00 PM.   

Events committee report

Doug Fiedler will present the ideas of the Events committee announce the plans of the committee at the 8/29 meeting to have a function this season for the entire WCOA if possible; dates, type of event and attendees will be submitted to the combined membership after the  survey which was submitted to football by Clem Brooks and the basketball survey are analyzed by the Events committee as to interest

Half day clinic

Chuck Kindred is working with Bobby Reinhart at Berkeley Prep to finalize a date as 10/20 is not available.  Jack and Chuck will work together to establish the criteria for the clinic as well as solicit clinicians from the senior 4 and 5 rated officials.

Board discussed this item and marked it for closure.

New Business

New member and returning first year member certification report

Jim Eckler presented the attendance list for the May and August certification training sessions, as well as providing as assessment of the qualifications of the attendees. 16 officials have met the criteria for the successful completion of this training and recognized as well as presented certificates at the 8/29 meeting. The certificates will be obtained and created by Jim Eckler for the board’s approval, prior to presenting to those members. Clem and Jeff will sign each certificate. 

Scrimmage game assignments

Jeff Albers and Chris Callaway will poll the coaches at their next scheduled coaches meeting to obtain dates for pre-season scrimmages. Chris will be introduced to the coaches at this time. A minimum of 6 officials will be assigned via Arbiter to each scrimmage.  

 Wednesday meeting agenda

bulletClem will open with a brief statement on the association as a whole as well as basketball and provide closure to all pending items.
bulletJim Eckler will review the bylaw revisions and request a vote.
bulletAll new officials will be recognized and the 16 will be presented certificates.
bullet Awards to be presented including a special presentation to Jon Decker
bullet Chris will be introduced and announce the Arbiter and booking requirements, handing out middle school forms.
