Are you interested in officiating
basketball in the Florida Hillsborough or Pasco county areas? The West Coast
Officials Association provides referees for all middle school, JV and senior
high school games in these counties, as well as various high school summer and
recreational leagues.
All applicants must successfully
complete a 14 hour training clinic, and sessions will be scheduled in May,
August and October. Per state
guidelines, you must be at least 18 years of age to officiate in Florida,
although mentor programs are available for younger individuals.
As this training is mandatory for all officials without confirmed high school
or higher officiating experience, opportunities may be limited at this time
unless you have prior experience.
All association meeting dates will be posted on the basketball page under the
events calendar. The application process includes
registration with the WCOA, and registration with the FHSAA plus fee,
the state mandatory finger printing and background check, and purchase the proper uniform including jacket. After the season begins, assignment schedules will be
available via the Arbiter software scheduler. After completing this page,
you must
go to this link
Join the WCOA and complete the joining
process, starting at step 1 as you will not be able to officiate middle or high
school sports without the fingerprinting/background checks.
